As more people go online to look for health information, there is a need to provide basic and accurate educational resources. The Health Trust, a charitable foundation in Silicon Valley, saw this as an opportunity to develop an online local resource to help meet the needs of people in Santa Clara County, California. More specifically they wanted to make it easy for men who have sex with men (MSM) to find free and low cost health and wellness services available in the County. The Health Trust also wanted a site where people could go for basic information around topics such as HIV, STDs, and safer sex issues specific to MSM.

In the summer of 2011, The Health Trust, with funding from the Elton John AIDS Foundation, hired JSI to develop content for a new gay men’s health website (with a focus on HIV and STDs) for Santa Clara County. Bringing familiarity with the County, expertise in online communication, and extensive knowledge of health content areas such as HIV, STDs, mental health and wellness, and LGBT health, JSI adapted and developed content for the site, N2Men.

With a peer-to-peer tone and a focus on local resources, the site launched in August 2011 to correspond to San Jose’s Gay Pride celebration. N2Men shares direct information about HIV, STDs, safer sex, and other health topics without holding back, and links people to many government and other resources.

Between September and December 2011, JSI entered a second phase of the project that included a comprehensive review of existing content on the site and expansion of additional content areas.
