In an effort to evaluate process reengineering efforts taking place across the healthcare safety net, JSI was asked by the California HealthCare Foundation (CHCF) to develop a publicly available Issue Brief in the domain of management reengineering across safety net organizations. JSI identified practices applied to safety net clinics in reorganizing their organizations to achieve additional efficiencies. While not tied to the adoption of health information technology (health IT), health IT was one aspect evaluated in this domain. In addition, the landscape analysis evaluated the following components:

  • Lean
  • Six sigma
  • Patient visit redesign
  • Medical home models
  • Continuous quality improvement
  • Business process modeling
