Collection of Healthcare Personnel Influenza Vaccination Data in Massachusetts Healthcare Facilities

Dates: 2016

State: Massachusetts

Client(s): Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH)

Service: Applied Research & Evaluation

Technical Expertise: Immunization

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) requires licensed healthcare facilities including acute care hospitals, ambulatory care surgery centers, long-term care/rehabilitation hospitals, dialysis centers, clinics and long-term care facilities to report influenza vaccine coverage among employees. Healthcare facilities must document and report receipt of vaccines administered within and outside the facility and immunization declination. Healthcare workers are at high-risk for influenza exposure and may be a source of influenza virus transmission in healthcare settings. Annual immunization is the most effective method of preventing influenza.

JSI is working with the MDPH's Bureau of Health Care Safety and Quality to collect health care personnel influenza vaccine coverage data for the 2015-2016 influenza season from healthcare facilities in Massachusetts. In addition, JSI will conduct data analyses of the influenza vaccine coverage data and will synthesize the findings in a report for public dissemination.
