Join JSI at the World Health Assembly

May 20, 2017

Join JSI’s Kumkum Amin and other speakers on Wednesday, May 24 in Geneva at a panel to raise global awareness on the health situation of 5.8 million Palestine refugees.

The panel will explore the factors that negatively affect the health and well-being of Palestinians and Palestine refugees who live under volatile and difficult conditions, and the possible ways to deliver life-saving and essential health services. The Lancet-spondored panel will be moderated by Richard Horton and will feature speakers from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and WHO, among others.

Kumkum Amin, JSI's associate director for international programs in Boston, spent seven weeks working with UNRWA in Jordan late last year. There she helped examine the health problems that Palestinian refugees from Syria living in Jordan face—particularly maternal and child health, and  prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases (e.g., diabetes and hypertension). She also explored the hospitals and assessed refugees' access and barriers to health care services.

The panel will be held at the Intercontinental Geneva Hotel, Switzerland, Chemin du Petit Saconnex/ 1209 Geneva, on Wednesday 24 May 2017, from 7:00–9:00 pm.
