A case of diarrhea for a child usually means a visit to the doctor, a course of medicine, and a few days of bland food. But for children in India, a case of diarrhea can mean life-long developmental challenges or even death. Despite the availability of simple effective treatment diarrhea is still a leading killer of children in developing countries, accounting for 9 percent of deaths among children under age five.

JSI India is the lead technical partner for rotavirus vaccine introduction in the country. The team publishes the Rota Talk bimonthly newsletter to regularly update partners and the government on their progress. As of September 2019, India had officially introduced rotavirus vaccine in all 37 states and union territories (UTs).
