The health care workforce in the United States is increasingly reliant on new and emergent health care professionals. Optimally, these varied professionals work in teams to deliver medical and prevention services. This article is a commentary on "Community Health Workers and the Changing Workforce." The authors believe that by ensuring that health care provider teams routinely develop bridges and linkages to communities to where health happens, they can best assure the greatest improvements in health for all. Community health workers (CHWs) can play that bridging role.
