SUMMARY

JSI is working to address the challenge of low immunization coverage in urban areas of Indonesia by gaining a nuanced understanding of factors that affect the demand for, barriers of access to, and use of immunization services. JSI is supporting the development of a sustainable strategic action plan in collaboration with Universitas Indonesia.

JSI aims to understand the factors affecting the supply and availability of immunizations among stakeholders and key actors who influence the provision of these services. The overarching goals of the work are: provide additional evidence and lessons learned on urban immunization for global dialogue and planning that could be used to inform various processes such as the new Gavi strategy or to build upon the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP); highlight barriers to immunization access and utilization faced by the urban poor; support the prioritization, costing, and selection of practical actions that could be implemented by coordination bodies in a selected urban area; and build the capacity of national champions and institutions to make better-informed decisions that address urban poor immunization inequities and advocate for their need in political and budgeting environments.
