Staff members from across JSI shared results from their programs at the 2019 Francophone Summit for Social and Behavior Change. The summit, which took place February 25-27 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, addressed barriers in reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition in Francophone Africa.

JSI staff made several presentations, including:

Model households: Multiplying Agents of Change in Remote Communities of Madagascar

Presented by Jocelyn Rakotonirina, USAID Community Capacity for Health Program

This poster presentation shared lessons from using a “model household approach,” which empowers the community to take responsibility for improving its own health status and ensures that behavior changes are sustainable.

Community Monitoring of Individual Children’s Vaccinations

Presented by Kate Bagshaw, Maternal and Child Survival Program

This oral presentation covered six country experiences, from 2011 through 2018, in which community members monitor every young child’s vaccinations, promote vaccination, and refer caregivers to vaccinate using the My Village Is My Home tool.

Mobilizing Resources for a Madagascar Free of Poliomyelitis

Presented by Jaures Churchill Rabemanantena, Gavi Strengthening Routine Immunization project in Madagascar

This oral presentation, part of the Top Chefs: The Recipe for Successful Community Engagement panel, highlighted how to mobilize local resources for immunization activities.

Improvement of Vaccination Coverage in Urban Areas Through Strengthening the Availability and Use of the Vaccination Card

Presented by Dr. Andre Tonda, Rotavirus Accelerated Vaccine Introduction Network and Improving Immunization Service Delivery in Urban Poor Settings in DRC

This oral and poster presentation, part of the Top Chefs: The Recipe for Successful Community Engagement panel, shared lessons to improve availability and use of immunization cards in two districts in Kinshasa between May 2017 and January 2018.

Seeing is Believing: Innovation with Community-led Videos for Behavior Change

Presented by Andrew Cunningham, USAID’s Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Activity (MSNA)

This presentation, part of the Exploration SBC Use Patterns to Improve Community Nutrition panel, discussed the former SPRING program’s community video work to improve behavior related to maternal, infant, and young child nutrition, hygiene, male involvement, and nutrition-sensitive agriculture practices in Niger, Burkina Faso, Guinea, and Senegal.
