We are pleased to announce that Tulli Tuhuma has been appointed by Dorothy Gwajima, Tanzania’s Minister of Health, Gender, the Elderly and Community Development, to be part of a leadership transition team to oversee the creation of a new national council of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). The 10-member council will implement the rules and regulations governing NGOs in Tanzania. Among other responsibilities, the transition team will conduct an election to appoint National Council of NGOs members.

Dr. Tulli was chief of party for the JSI-implemented, USAID-supported Community Health and Social Welfare Systems Strengthening Program in Tanzania, which strengthened the capacity of 50 national NGOs to respond to the HIV epidemic. She has been a strong advocate for the role of national NGOs in strengthening Tanzania’s health and social welfare systems.

Joining Dr. Tulli on the transition committee are Flaviana Charles, Coalition for Women Human Rights Defenders Tanzania; Francis Kiwanga, Foundation for Civil Society Tanzania; Edward Porokwa, The Pastoralists Indigenous Non-Governmental Organizations Forum; Tike Mwambipile, Tanzania Women Lawyers Association; Yassin Ally, Kivulini Women’s Rights Organization; Anna Kulaya, Women in Law and Development in Africa – Tanzania Chapter; Audax Rukonge, Agricultural Non-State Actors Forum; Suzan Bipa, BRAC Tanzania; and Astronaut Bagile, Women in Social Entrepreneurship Tanzania.
