Global supply chains continued to make headlines in 2022. Over the past year, we began moving from crisis response to envisioning a new future. As the need for bold solutions to accelerate this transformation grows in 2023, we’re revisiting a few of our most popular and relevant health supply chain articles and resources from 2022.

  1. Health Supply Chain Management: JSI’s approach to strengthening and scaling consumer-centric supply chains. This resource highlights JSI’s approach to transforming health supply chains to ensure people have on-demand access to high-quality, affordable health supplies where, when, and how they want to receive them.
  2. Introducing 20 Essential Resources: Reproductive Health Commodity Security (RHCS) and Supply Chain Management. In partnership with Knowledge SUCCESS, JSI curated 20 essential RHSC and supply chain resources to help governments, program managers, technical advisors, and implementers make strategic decisions, plan, and create targeted interventions to increase access to contraceptive commodities.
  3. Using Digital Tools to Track and Trace Health Commodities. Data and digitization are core to serving clients and transforming supply chains. This article provides an overview of Ethiopia’s digital transformation and the steps taken to develop a health commodity track-and-trace system that ensures accountability, efficiency, and most importantly, public safety.
  4. Global Health Supply Chains: Acknowledging our climate action responsibilities. Global health supply chains are both affected by and contribute to the climate crisis. This article is part of JSI’s broader efforts to re-configure every step of the health supply chain to fulfill our climate action responsibilities.
  5. The Humanitarian Commodities Logistics (HCL) Community Education Series. According to UNHCR, in 2021, there were more than 27 million refugees and more than 53 million internally displaced people. These men, women, and children often lack access to basic rights including health care and essential health products. With support from USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, JSI conducted the HCL series focused on supply chain management topics and ensuring the availability of pharmaceutical products in humanitarian emergencies.
  6. Introducing the Total Market Approach for HIV Commodities in Nigeria. This article highlights key strategies to expand the condom market in Nigeria. As a result of TMA efforts, the public sector share of condoms shrank from 19 percent in 2017 to 12 percent in 2019 and the social marketing and commercial sector share increased from 81 percent to 88 percent in the same period. This indicates a more sustainable market, as people buy condoms more often when they can afford them.
  7. Webinar Series: Using Data to Strengthen Immunization Supply Chain Decision-Making. By triangulating data from several sources to improve data quality, we are better able to overcome immunization supply chain challenges. JSI, with Gavi support, hosted a webinar series to strengthen the Expanded Programme on Immunization supply chain managers’ capacity around data use.
