Scaling Up Coverage of Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision

Voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) is a one-time, low-cost procedure that can dramatically reduce the risk of HIV transmission. In 2010, JSI's STAR-EC project launched an initiative to rapidly scale up VMMC service provision in East Central Uganda as part of a comprehensive HIV prevention strategy. Through six years of STAR-EC support, more than 408,000 men have received VMMC, increasing the percentage of circumcised men in the region from 37 to 57 percent. This infographic outlines the key strategies that were implemented by STAR-EC to achieve these results. STAR-EC/JSI, 2016
