Kyrgyz Republic Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative Posters

The SPRING project, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, designed a set of 10 posters for hospitals and health facilities about the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI). These posters describe the principles of a “friendly” approach toward mother and baby, as well as breastfeeding steps.

The posters stress the importance of breastfeeding for both child and mother, and of early initiation of breastfeeding. Key messages of the posters include guidance on successful breastfeeding with illustrations of correct child positioning and breastfeeding attachment. To promote exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a baby’s life, the posters also describe how to express breast milk. In addition, the posters contain information and recommendations for HIV-positive breastfeeding mothers and describe the negative impact of pacifiers and bottle feeding.
