Improving Immunization Service Delivery for the Urban Poor

The world is currently experiencing the largest wave of urban growth in history. More than half the population now lives in towns and cities, and by 2030 this number is expected to swell. Much of this rapid urbanization is taking place in Africa and Asia, bringing social and economic transformation, including large numbers of poor, mobile populations.

Within this context, JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI), with funding from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, provided technical assistance to various countries to identify barriers to access and use of immunization services among the urban poor.

This brochure highlights the Improving Immunization Service Delivery for the Urban Poor project that worked to address these issues. Project findings informed assessment and prioritization of service delivery strategies and interventions that can be developed and implemented to more effectively reach marginalized urban communities, as part of Gavi’s goal of improving and maintaining high coverage rates and equity.
