Engaging Women to Strengthen VMMC Demand Creation Approaches for HIV Prevention

Women play a crucial role in the success of voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) programs in sub-Saharan Africa. Led by JSI, the AIDSFree Project engages women to serve as community advocates, raising awareness of the benefits of VMMC for both women and their male partners in their communities. The female mobilizers have shown they can successfully carry the message of the public health benefits of VMMC. On a personal level, women are driving a cultural shift that makes VMMC an attractive trait in a male partner, even in countries where circumcision is not a traditional norm.  JSI/AIDSFree Project. 2016.
