SUMMARY

JSI will conduct an initial evaluation of the Vermont Everyone Eats Program (VEE) for Southeastern Vermont Community Action (SEVCA). The program was conceived, developed, and implemented quickly in response to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on food security and the local economy.

Vermont Everyone Eats engages community partners throughout the state to coordinate meal production by local restaurants and distribution of meals at various sites within communities. Launched in August 2020, the program is slated to close in December with the end of the $6 million in funding allocated by the state from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. During this time, the program will have paid for over 500,000 meals, prepared by more than 100 restaurants, that were provided free of charge to residents throughout the state.

JSI is conducting an evaluation to learn about the experience and value of the program from the perspective of community hub partners and restaurants. A convenience sample of stakeholders are being engaged in key informant interviews during December. Findings will be summarized and used to inform opportunities for future funding and program evaluation, refinement and sustainability.
