SUMMARY

Through the new Creating Healthy Schools and Communities Initiative, school and community-based organizations work together to increase demand for and access to healthy, affordable foods and opportunities for daily physical activity in New York communities.

In 2015, the New York State Department of Health (DOH) selected JSI to provide technical assistance, training, resources, and a platform for grantees and their partners to collaborate. Since 2015, JSI has led an exceptional partnership of collaborators consisting of Cairn Guidance, America Walks, Urban Cycling Solutions, CommonHealth ACTION, Nemours Children’s Health, and Vanguard Communications, among others. Together, this JSI partnership has offered substantial knowledge in creating healthy school and community environments through nutrition and physical activity-related policy in New York State and across the U.S. JSI and its partners are committed to promoting good health throughout New York and continue to provide culturally targeted services designed to help grantees build capacity.
