SUMMARY

Incidents such as the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic, hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, and the West Africa Ebola outbreak underscore the importance of increasing community preparedness. Effective community preparedness for incidents that significantly impact public health, medical, and/or behavioral health systems and services requires input from a wide variety of community sectors.

JSI is working with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Office of Preparedness and Emergency Management (OPEM), to conduct a Jurisdictional Risk Assessment (JRA) in each of the six Health and Medical Coordinating Coalition (HMCC) regions.

This collaborative process will guide regional partners through the identification of potential hazards, vulnerabilities, and risks in their communities, as well as strengths in their regional preparedness and response systems, in order to identify priority mitigation strategies to increase preparedness across their communities.
