SUMMARY

JSI is building a comprehensive GIS-linked tool to analyze primary care workforce and access for communities across the state of Maine across the medical, dental, and mental health disciplines.

The primary goal is to support the federal Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) designation process, but the underlying data will also be used to conduct more detailed and in-depth analysis as well. We're compiling demographic and health data on the population, and combining it with analysis of provider licensure and survey data, and an analysis of claims from the state's All Payer claims database.

The claims analysis allows JSI to directly map the patient flow and travel times at the zip code level, for populations of different life cycles and insurance coverage at the zip code level, using an Origin-Destination analysis process and assessment of utilization rates.
