SUMMARY

John Snow, Inc. (JSI) will work collaboratively with Georgia State University (GSU) in conducting a five-phase, three-year study to gain understanding on how electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) are modified and why, the extent that modification of ENDS occurs in the U.S., who is modifying ENDS and how, and the role of ENDS product characteristics that aid modification. JSI’s primary role is to assist with conducting the qualitative research components of this study, which include recruiting, conduction and analyzing qualitative data from interviews and focus groups, social media content analysis, and cognitive testing of survey questions. The long-term goal of this study is to inform the understanding of how ENDS product characteristics influence consumer modification and the resulting use behavior, exposure to harmful and potentially harmful chemicals (HPHCs), and resulting population health impact.
