SUMMARY

Along with our partners the Washington State Department of Health, the Common Indicators Project, and Pillar Consulting, JSI leads one of two evaluation centers for the national Community Health Workers for COVID Response and Resilient Communities (CCR) Initiative.

JSI co-leads strategic planning for and implementation of an equity-driven, multi-site (68 grantees) community-based participatory evaluation framework that explores the role of community health workers (CHWs) in expanding access to COVID-19 resources for all communities served by CCR 2109 grantees in diverse communities across the country, particularly for people of color, including several tribal nations and US territories.

The evaluation also will explore how CHWs address the underlying social determinants of health that lead to higher rates of COVID-19 infection among people of color. Relying on the expertise of CHWs who will serve as project leads and subject-matter experts, JSI and our partners will use a mixed methods approach to assess short-term, intermediate-term, and long-term outcomes of the CCR initiative. Evaluation results will inform project improvement strategies and sustainable CHW program design. The two national evaluation centers work closely with the national technical assistance and training center to align project evaluation with implementation.
