Addressing health workforce shortages across rural areas and other areas with limited providers is an important part of improving health access. JSI has been utilizing data analysis of public datasets, distribution of provider surveys, and GIS mapping to support analysis of health professional shortage areas for 20 years.
The Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program (Nurse Corps LRP) is a component of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) / Bureau of Health Workforce (BHW) family of programs focused on addressing workforce disparities throughout the country by providing incentives for providers to practice in communities with healthcare workforce gaps.
JSI is supporting the Nurse Corp LRP in analysis of their current approach to determine need and rank program applicants. This analysis will explore several options looking at impact of alternative weighting and scoring of applicant criteria to support grant distribution approach in the future.
