In the early 1990s, JSI implemented its first project in Vietnam, the Basic Support for Institutionalizing Child Survival (BASICS) program, which sought to improve the rate of survival in young children by improving basic nutrition and health care. Within the last decade, JSI’s projects in Vietnam have focused primarily on HIV prevention: JSI has provided technical assistance and capacity building services to PEPFAR’s Supply Chain Management Systems (SCMS) program, which among other accomplishments, has reduced the average cost of antiretroviral treatments and virtually eliminated HIV commodity stockouts. JSI is managing USAID’s AIDSTAR-One project, which builds sustainable HIV prevention programs in country. JSI recently provided technical assistance to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control-funded Harvard AIDS Initiative in Vietnam (HAIVN).
