A big congratulations to our Pakistan team, in particular Dr. Babar Shaikh and Dr. Nabeela Ali, for publishing an article entitled “Pakistan’s Health and Population Think Tank: a policy platform for achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3 national targets,” in the WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Health Journal.

JSI worked with Pakistan’s Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination to develop the Health and Population Think Tank, which examines and develops policy options for the ministry. Since its inception in 2017, the think tank has become a forum for stakeholders to discuss areas of importance in Pakistan’s public health system. The think tank has generated evidence for Pakistan’s provinces on “what has worked” and “what can be contextualized” to be included in provincial health strategies.

The planning and development of the Health and Population Think Tank was done under the auspices of the Health Systems Strengthening Component of USAID’s Maternal and Child Health Program, which JSI managed from 2013 to 2018. JSI has continued to provide support to the think tank under the USAID-funded Integrated Health Systems Strengthening and Service Delivery Activity.
