Country Representative, Ethiopia; Chief of Party, USAID Quality Healthcare Activity

Binyam Fekadu Desta focuses on preventing child and maternal deaths by improving the quality of reproductive, maternal, child, newborn, and adolescent health care at referral hospitals and primary health care units. In this role, he covers cross-cutting technical areas such as whole-system thinking; global health security; gender, youth, and social inclusion; health facility renovation in post-conflict settings; digital health; and emergency response. Binyam has directed a variety of projects for JSI, working with the Ethiopian Ministry of Health to demonstrate primary health care reforms, models of community and private sector engagement, and quality management initiatives. Before JSI, Binyam, who has a PhD, worked in HIV, girls’ education, and community empowerment at several international and Ethiopian nongovernmental organizations.
