Vermont Healthcare Workforce Plan

Dates: 2011-2013

State: Vermont

Client(s): University of Vermont

Service: Health Care & Public Health Planning

JSI worked with the University of Vermont Area Health Education Center Program, is a health care workforce development initiative, to complete a statewide health care workforce assessment and plan. Through primary research, key informant interviews, and literature and secondary source reviews, JSI assisted with the development of this plan by:

  • Defining the current labor market
  • Establishing current and projected high-need health care occupations
  • Identifying Federal, state and private resources which could be leveraged to address workforce issues
  • Describing the current secondary and postsecondary policies, models, and practices which facilitate or hinder health care workforce development
  • Summarizing the barriers and solutions based upon research
  • Developing health care profession profiles for each of the high priority occupations
The resulting plan was a prerequisite to applying for implementation funds from the federal government and provided a road map for stakeholders across the state working on health care workforce development.
