Since 2006, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention and Control Program, has contracted with JSI to conduct quality assurance chart reviews for data validation for Massachusetts hospitals participating in the Coverdell Stroke Registry.
JSI staff review cases annually to assess completeness and accuracy of data submitted to the Coverdell Stroke Registry. Project activities include on-site and remote chart reviews for up to 56 hospitals. This ongoing chart audit process aims to assure standardization of data interpretation and support a high level of technical accuracy in the patient-level data collection and reporting. Data discrepancies are identified as part of a teaching process designed to support the hospital data abstractors and promote improvements in data quality. Oral and written feedback is provided to individual site staff, with formal written reports for overall hospital performance to the Mass Department of Public Health.
