Community Health Institute/JSI (CHI/JSI) was contracted by the University of Massachusetts AHEC and Massachusetts Department of Public Health to develop a system analyzing primary care, mental health, and dental capacity statewide to assess the potential of creating or expanding areas covered by federal shortage designations. The goals of the project were to maximize the possibility for federal benefits pertaining to HPSA designations, and to create a model for processing and submitting federal shortage designations. The successful implementation and installation of the resulting system has permitted the state to move forward with its shortage assessment and designation planning, and a subsequent contract was awarded to JSI to assist in this process.
