The Connecticut Department of Public Health (CT DPH) is pursuing Public Health Accreditation Board accreditation as a demonstration of a high functioning health department. CT DPH contracted with JSI to facilitate one of the three prerequisites for accreditation – the organizational strategic plan. The strategic plan defines the organization’s roles, priorities, and direction over three to five years. It sets forth what an organization plans to achieve, how it will achieve it, and how it will know if it has achieved it.

JSI facilitated a day long retreat with Strategic Planning Committee members representing department leadership and management. In advance of the meeting, a survey was conducted to solicit input. During the retreat, participants finalized their mission and vision statements and identified the organization’s core values. Consensus was obtained from participants regarding organizational strengths and weaknesses and priorities for improvement for the next five years.
