Improving Child Health in Benin: BASICS III, Final Report

Download this publicationUSAID/BASICS formally began working in Benin in November 2008 to advocate antibiotic-based treatment of pneumonia at the community level in Benin, and to document experiences with community approaches to health in the country. In addition, USAID/BASICS assisted in the quantification of ACTs (for malaria treatment) in five Health Zones.
Reports made by USAID/BASICS project for Benin's Ministry of Health laid the groundwork for building at-scale, community-based case management through the systematic training of Community Health Workers in prescribing cotrimoxazole, an antibiotic used to treat pneumonia.
