JSI to begin working in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province
April 13, 2019
JSI is pleased to announce that we will begin working in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, which is located in northern Pakistan along the border with Afghanistan, to improve access to high-quality maternal, newborn, and child health services and prevent diseases such as multi-drug resistant tuberculosis, typhoid, and other infectious diseases.

Our work will support the newly-approved KP health policy and JSI will collaborate with our KP Health Department colleagues every step of the way. This work is a key part of JSI’s USAID-supported Integrated Health Systems Strengthening and Service Delivery (IHSS-SD) Activity, a three-year activity that contributes to the global health security agenda and ensures access to high-quality maternal and child health services along the Afghanistan border.
On April 10, 2019, JSI signed a letter of understanding (LOU) with the KP government at a ceremony in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital. The ceremony was attended by the Honorable Minister of Health Dr. Hisham Inam Ullah Khan, USAID/Pakistan Health Office Director Sangita Patel, USAID/Pakistan Health Office Deputy Director Han Kang, JSI Country Representative and IHSS-SD Chief of Party Dr. Nabeela Ali, senior officials from the KP Health Department, deputy commissioners and district health officers from selected KP districts, other USAID staff, and JSI and activity consortium partner staff.
The LOU was signed by Secretary Health Dr. Syed Farooq Jameel and JSI Country Representative and IHSS-SD Activity Chief of Party Dr. Nabeela Ali and witnessed by Director General Health Dr. Arshad Khan and JSI Deputy Chief of Party and Technical Director Dr. Babar Tasneem Shaikh.
