The DMPA-SC Access Collaborative was recently featured in the Protecting Global Gains campaign. Seizing opportunities in Madagascar to expand access to contraceptives highlights how the Madagascar Ministry of Health is mitigating disruptions to sexual and reproductive health services during COVID-19. With support from the DMPA-SC Access Collaborative, led by PATH and JSI, the MOH is using virtual trainings to teach health care providers to administer DMPA-SC (subcutaneous depot medroxyprogesterone acetate) and counsel women on how to self-inject. Expanding access to DMPA-SC for self injection as part of a broad mix of family planning options helps women control their sexual and reproductive health, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. DMPA-SC self-injection reduces the need for clinic visits and gives women autonomy in their reproductive health.
