Many residents in San Jose’s low-income communities do not have adequate access to affordable, fresh produce. Campaign for Healthy Food San Jose seeks to increase access to affordable fresh fruits and vegetables, particularly in low-income neighborhoods, through community gardens, farmers' markets, mobile produce vending, and city procurement policies.

A coalition of nonprofit organizations and City of San Jose departments led by the Health Trust won a grant to engage local leaders and community members to support environmental changes and policies to encourage healthy eating in Santa Clara County, California. JSI provided support in project management and coordination, meeting facilitation, and technical assistance in communications, community outreach, and evaluation to the coalition. This obesity prevention project is supported by the Santa Clara County Public Health Department with Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) funding from the Department of Health and Human Services.
