Assisting AHRQ Strategic Planning

Dates: 2011-2012

Geographic Scope: Nationwide

Client(s): Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)

Service: Health Care & Public Health Planning

With the current Federal emphasis on accountability and health care reform, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is seeking to re-evaluate its existing strategic goals to ensure that they support the Department of Health and Human Services strategic plan and that its overall direction remains relevant in the ever changing health care landscape.

JSI was subcontracted by AFYA, Inc. to assist in the strategic planning process for AHRQ. Through an environmental scan, SWOT analysis and key informant interviews, JSI and AFYA helped evaluate and refine the organization's goals, as well as the activities and outputs necessary for goal achievement.

When the strategic plan is finalized by AHRQ, it will help guide agency planning and decision making and will be an important tool for communicating the agency's value, the purpose of its activities, and its needs. It will also guide the priorities, resource allocation and appropriate performance measures for each of AHRQ's six research portfolios.
