Adolescents in Winchendon, Massachusetts were exepriencing high rates of behavioral health issues, primarily related to substance use. The Winchendon Project (TWP) was a multi-pronged, phased intervention with two important goals: to reduce substance abuse rates among and enhance the mental health status of 6th-12th graders attending Murdock Middle High School (MMHS) in Winchendon. Over the course of the project's three phases, TWP initiated and supported systemic change that enabled the school and community to address social norms, access behavioral health services, and increase coordination of behavioral health services at the MMHS. JSI was the project evaluator and conducted surveys, ensured fidelity to evidence-based models and supported tracking of access to behavioral health services.
