Joel Lamstein Featured in Boston University's Bostonia Magazine
October 30, 2017
JSI founder and president Joel Lamstein was featured in the Fall 2017 issue of Boston University’s Bostonia magazine. The article, A Meeting of the Minds: A scholarship sponsor and a recipient share a common dream, profiles Lamstein and Alexis Gitungano, a student at the university’s School of Public Health (SPH).
In 2012, Lamstein, who chairs the SPH Dean’s Advisory Board, committed to permanently endowing the Lamstein Family/JSI Scholarship, which supports one or more masters in public health students annually. The scholarship is awarded to candidates based on financial need and academic merit. Lamstein supports SPH for the same reason he co-founded JSI: to improve the health of individuals and communities in the US and around the world.
Gitungano, whose vision is to start an international health organization, enrolled at SPH this past spring. Support from the Lamstein Family/JSI Scholarship funds his tuition. “It’s as if I were walking, and Joel Lamstein stopped and put me in his car,” says Gitungano. “He is giving me a ride to get to my destination.”
