Minority Substance Abuse & HIV/AIDS in the United States

Integrated Substance Abuse and HIV/AIDS Prevention in Minority Communities

Rodolfo Vega
Senior Consultant
JSI employee since January, 2000

I've been working on the Integrated Substance Abuse and HIV/AIDS Prevention in Minority Communities since JSI began the project in 1999. Sponsored by the Congressional Black and Latino Caucuses, it is the first initiative in the United States to integrate HIV/AIDS and substance abuse prevention in minority communities.

Together with my JSI colleagues, including Tom Mangione, Jackie Nolan, Leslie Roberts, and many others, I work closely with 47 primarily African American and Latino community groups to develop, implement, and evaluate integrated programs. It is fascinating to work on a project where we can watch policies develop in Congress and then help implement the resulting interventions in local communities.
