From Texas to Hawaii and Maine, each year JSI conducts observations of boater activities and life jacket usage for the United States Coast Guard. We sit by lakes, rivers and coastline with binoculars, lawn chair, and plenty of water, to observe boaters' use of personal floatation devices. While it is hard work, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to improve boating safety across the nation and help save lives!

The United States Coast Guard uses the information we gather to help determine things such as the impact of state boating laws on life jacket use, as well as the affects of age, boat type, or weather conditions on life jacket use. JSI will be publishing the results of these studies in several injury prevention journal.
