The Online Community Manager will support the online presence from website content to social media platforms. was created so that people at-risk for or living with HIV, especially communities of color and other vulnerable populations, can seamlessly use technology to access federal programs and resources that improve their daily lives. John Snow, Inc., a public health research and consulting firm dedicated to promoting and improving health around the world, is the communications contractor for, a program of the US Department of Health and Human Services supported by the Secretary's Minority AIDS Initiative Funding (SMAIF).


  • Build and implement social media strategies that integrate our social media platforms, with our website, blog and online community.
  • Write content for and manage our online community across social media platforms and our website.
  • Keep the team and our partners (federal and community) up to date on new social media platforms and features.
  • Conceptualize and/or create graphics and images for social media and blogs.
  • Measure, track, analyze and report on our social media activities.
  • Review and respond to digital media performance metrics with recommendations for improving content, design or effectiveness of web content and/or applications.
  • Develop and implement plans to listen and learn from the HIV community and federal partners and identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Understand and help implement the communications strategy for the National HIV/AIDS Strategy, Federal Action Plan and Viral Hepatitis (VH) Action Plan.
  • Ensure all final products are 508-compliant so that everyone can access our content and information.
  • Follow-through on assignments during nontraditional work hours, as needed.
  • Represent at conferences and community events.
  • Provide in-person and phone/web based technical assistance on social media platforms.
  • Develop and build relationships with key online influencers.
  • Identify and build relationships with key influencers in communities impacted by HIV and Viral Hepatitis (VH).
  • Write blogs on social media and digital tools for, as well as prepare blogs for publication.


  • Bachelor’s degree plus extensive professional social media/communications experience.
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, metrics and tracking.
  • Knowledge of HIV and VH and experience working with communities of color and populations most-heavily impacted by HIV and VH including: Black gay and bisexual men, Black and Latino women and men, people who inject drugs, people in the Southern United States, and transgender women.
  • Knowledge of or interest in learning about domestic public health issues.
  • Availability to work during non-traditional business hours as needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully multi-tasking across projects and delivering results within very tight deadlines.
  • Must work from one of JSI's domestic offices in DC, Boston, Atlanta, San Francisco, Denver, or Providence, RI.
  • Excellent problem solving and self-management skills.
  • Knowledge of HTML, image processing and editing software (Photoshop). Video processing/editing software (a plus) for blogs and social media.
